In short: Most important is a USB-C cable rated 100 W / 5 A (or Starlink’s own cable) and a suitable power source. Then a mount for your use case (camper, balcony, boat), a case and, if needed, a mini router for larger areas. As of October 2026.

What’s in the box – and what’s missing

The Mini kit contains the antenna with built-in router, a fold-out kickstand, a power supply and a cable. That lets you run it from any socket. For use on the road, though, something is often missing: a cable for a power bank or 12 V, a stable mount and protection in transit.

Accessories by priority

Priority Accessory Purpose Criteria
1 USB-C cable 100 W / 5 A Power bank/station 5 A e-marker, right plug for the Mini
1 Power bank with 100 W USB-C PD Off-grid use „20 V ⎓ 5 A“ on one port, under 100 Wh for flights
2 12 V cable Car, camper, boat Fuse, cable size
2 Mount Fixed or raised position Wind load, material, fixing
3 Case Transport Padding, room for cables
3 Travel adapter Sockets abroad Destination plug types
4 Mini router/mesh (optional) Larger areas Compatibility per Starlink

Cables: the most common wrong buy

Many USB-C cables are only rated 3 A (60 W). With those the Mini won’t start reliably on a power bank. Look for „100 W“ or „5 A“ and an e-marker chip – and test your power bank and cable combination at home, including start-up. Length matters too: shorter cables lose less voltage. More: Powering the Starlink Mini on the road – power bank, power station, solar.

Mounts by use case

Use Mount type Watch out for
Camper Pole on ladder or rail, suction mount, roof mount Road-safe, vibration, sealing where drilled
Balcony/accommodation Railing clamp Railing thickness, landlord’s consent
Garden/holiday home Pole with ground spike or wall arm Height above obstructions
Boat Rail mount, pole on the pushpit Seawater-resistant, little shading by mast and sails
Beach/sand Kickstand with weight (sandbag) Prevent tipping in wind

Details: Starlink Mini in a camper – mounting, 12-volt supply, use on the move and Starlink on a boat – coast, ocean mode and backup. For a fixed installation of the Standard kit on roof or facade in and around Vienna, we offer installation with our partner Skyline Bau: Starlink installation.

Power: power bank, power station, 12 V

  • Power bank: for flights and a few hours of use. Up to 100 Wh usually allowed in hand luggage without approval.
  • Power station: for campers and longer stays, with USB-C PD or a 12 V output.
  • 12 V cable: straight to the vehicle supply or leisure battery – efficient, but only with proper fusing.

Power station for travel and camping – what size do you need? works out which size fits.

Other accessories that prove useful

  • Cable ties and Velcro for tidy routing
  • A small level/compass app for setup – though the app shows the obstructions that actually matter
  • A spare cable if your work depends on it
  • Mesh Wi-Fi for large houses, connected via the Ethernet adapter

Starter sets by trip type

Trip type Minimal set Useful additions
Flying with a backpack Kit, 5 A USB-C cable, power bank ≤ 100 Wh Padded case, travel adapter
Camper Kit, fused 12 V cable Pole or ladder mount, power station
Boat Kit, 12 V cable, rail mount Cable gland, connector protection
Holiday home/garden Kit Pole or wall arm, mesh Wi-Fi
At home (Standard kit) Kit Fixed roof/facade installation, extension, mesh

Care and transport

  • Keep the antenna clean: remove dust, sand and salt with a soft, slightly damp cloth – no harsh cleaners.
  • Protect connectors: unplug cables for transport and keep ports dry and clean.
  • Don’t kink: coil cables loosely, don’t wrap them tightly around the antenna.
  • Avoid heat: don’t leave it in a closed car in the sun.
  • Hand luggage: don’t put the antenna in checked baggage when flying.

Common buying mistakes

  • 3 A cable instead of 5 A.
  • Power bank with 100 W in total, but not on a single port.
  • Mount without wind securing – the Mini acts like a small sail.
  • Universal mounts that don’t fit the Mini’s kickstand.
  • Buying too much – to start, the kit plus cable and power source is enough.

FAQ

Do you need an extra router?

No, the router is built in. For larger areas there’s an optional mini router or mesh solutions.

Can I buy the Starlink kit on Amazon?

We recommend ordering kit and plan directly on starlink.com – only there does the referral bonus for new customers apply. Accessories are often more convenient on Amazon.

Which mount for a balcony?

A railing clamp rated for wind load. Check beforehand whether your landlord or property management agrees.

Do I need a case?

For flights and backpacking: yes. A padded case protects the antenna from scratches and pressure.
